Sian Flowers
Sian is Kenya's largest grower of spray roses, with over 160 hectares under production spread over four farms. Their dedication to variety development and excellence has led to their recognition as a key player in the global spray rose segment proudly joining the world of Spray Roses Alliance.
The Challenge
Sian had a strong focus on making forecasting as accurate as possible, using specifically designed training programs for staff. It turned out to be insufficient to prevent lossages, as a result of a mismatch between supply and demand. Also this insecurity led to sales teams struggling to commit to orders with confidence.
The Situation
In first exploration with Sian’s management Lima learned that operating a large-scale flower farm means it all depends on knowing exactly what stem quantities are coming from the fields, and what's ready to go to market. Without accurate forecasts, it’s hard for the sales team to plan and commit, for the packhouse to prepare, and to achieve customer confidence in commitments made.
How Lima came in
Lima joined Sian in 2023 with a fresh approach. Yield Predict, receiving data input from drone imagery, offered Sian a true picture of what was growing, and indicated accurately when stems were ready for harvesting. A year later Sales AI was also implemented, so information coming from fields could be used by sales and logistical teams to smoothen coldstore planning, balancing between Sea and Air freight quantities.
